Eton Psychiatrists & BCUHB (Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board)
NHS-funded ADHD and Autism assessments for families and young people with Neurodiversity in North Wales, delivered by Eton Psychiatrists in partnership with BCUHB.
Eton Psychiatrists is proud to partner with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) to deliver NHS neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people across North Wales.
Since the beginning of 2026, we have worked alongside the health board to reduce waiting times and provide high-quality ADHD and autism assessments for families on the BCUHB pathway. This partnership is a leading example of how the NHS and the independent sector can integrate seamlessly to improve outcomes for young people.
Our goal is to provide more than a diagnosis. We aim to give families a comprehensive understanding of a young person's profile — identifying strengths alongside challenges — so that families and schools can build an environment where the young person can thrive.
Assessments we provide under the BCUHB pathway
ADHD assessments — comprehensive evaluations following NICE clinical guidelines.
Autism (ASD) assessments — holistic reviews of social communication, sensory profile and developmental history.
Combined ADHD and Autism assessments— a single integrated pathway for young people presenting with overlapping neurodivergent traits.
All assessments are delivered remotely via secure video consultation by experienced consultant clinicians.
The Eton Approach
All assessments are delivered remotely via secure video consultation by experienced consultant clinicians.
Working together with the NHS
The feedback we have received from families and from BCUHB since the start of this project has been overwhelmingly positive. We remain committed to helping young people understand themselves better and giving schools and families the tools they need to provide the right support.
"Our partnership with BCUHB represents a new standard for integrated care, ensuring that every young person is seen, heard and understood." — Eton Psychiatrists Clinical Team

Your Journey
Referral received from NHS Wales
We receive your referral directly from the BCUHB neurodevelopmental team. You will receive an introductory email from us acknowledging your placement on our pathway.
Information Gathering
We send you a pack of digital pre-assessment forms by email, with clear instructions on which forms apply to your situation. These are completed by parents or carers, the young person's school or ALNCo, and (where appropriate) the young person.
Forms Reviewed
Once the parent and school forms are submitted, our clinical team reviews the information so the clinician has a full picture before the appointment.
Clinical assessment appointment
We invite you to book your assessment via our secure online booking portal. Appointments last and are delivered by our secured video. A parent or carer must attend with the young person.
Diagnostic report
A detailed written report is produced and shared with you , your GP and with BCUHB. You are welcome to contact us to discuss the outcome and recommendations.
Onward referral and discharge
Eton Psychiatrists does not initiate medication under this contract. If medication is recommended, an appropriate referral is made to your local NHS team for treatment, and you are then discharged from the Eton pathway.
What to Expect
Before your appointment
Before your assessment can be arranged, we need to gather some important information so the assessment is appropriate, safe and complete. We will email you a pre-assessment pack with clear, step-by-step instructions tailored to your situation — including which forms a parent or carer needs to complete, which need to be completed by your child's teacher or ALNCo, and what to do if your child is home-schooled or has recently completed forms with another provider.
Please complete the forms within 14 days where possible, as this allows us to move forward with arranging your appointment.
If you have not yet received your form pack, or if you have questions about which forms apply to your child, please email patients@etonpsychiatrists.co.uk and our team will guide you through it.
Booking your appointment
Once all required forms have been submitted (including confirmation that the school has completed the teacher form), we will invite you to book the assessment through our secure online booking portal.
Please do not book an appointment until all required pre-assessment forms have been completed. Booking without this information may result in the appointment being cancelled, as the clinician will not have the necessary details to proceed.
The assessment
The ADHD or autism assessment is carried out by an appropriately qualified consultant clinician and follows NICE guidance. The appointment usually lasts 60–90 minutes and includes:
- a detailed developmental and clinical history,
- a review of the information provided by parents, carers and school,
- and an exploration of the young person's strengths, needs and day-to-day functioning across home, school and social settings.
Assessments are delivered remotely via secure video consultation. A parent or carer must attend the appointment with the young person. If your child has any access, communication or language needs, please let us know in advance so we can make appropriate arrangements.
After the assessment
A clear written report will be shared with you and with BCUHB. The report can be used by your GP and your child's school to support access to healthcare and educational support. If medication is recommended, we will make an onward referral to your local NHS team and discharge you from the Eton pathway.
Contacting us
If you have any questions or experience any difficulties completing the forms, please contact us at patients@etonpsychiatrists.co.uk. We aim to respond to email enquiries within 48 hours. Email contact allows us to respond accurately and safely.
Frequently asked questions
- Why has my referral been moved from the NHS to Eton Psychiatrists? To reduce waiting times and ensure young people are seen as quickly as possible, BCUHB has partnered with Eton Psychiatrists to deliver clinical assessments. We work as an integrated part of the NHS pathway, which means your assessment carries the same clinical weight and validity as one delivered directly by the health board.
- Is there a cost for this assessment? No. This is an NHS-contracted service through BCUHB. There is no cost to the family or to the patient.
- Will the diagnosis be recognised by my child's school and GP? Yes. Our assessments follow the same NICE clinical guidelines used across the NHS. Because we work in direct partnership with BCUHB, your final report is shared with the health board and can be used to access support in educational and healthcare settings.
- What happens after I receive the introductory email? Please keep an eye on your inbox (and spam folder) for our pre-assessment information pack. The forms in that pack are vital for our clinicians to understand your child's history and current needs. We will also ask for your consent to gather observations from your child's school.
- How long will the process take? The timeline depends largely on how quickly we receive completed forms from parents and from the school. Once all the information is in, we schedule the clinical assessment as quickly as our availability allows. Our goal is to make the process as efficient and supportive as possible.
- Can I update my information if things have changed since the original referral? Yes. We understand that some families have been waiting some time. Our forms include sections specifically designed for you to share updated information about your child's current strengths and challenges.
- What if my child has traits of both ADHD and autism? We offer combined assessments. If the referral or the information gathered suggests traits of both, our clinical team is equipped to assess both neurodivergent profiles in a single integrated pathway.
- Will Eton Psychiatrists prescribe medication if my child is diagnosed with ADHD? Under this NHS contract, Eton Psychiatrists does not initiate medication. If medication is recommended in the report, we make an onward referral to your local NHS team for treatment, and you are then discharged from the Eton pathway.
- How do I contact you if I have a question? For any questions about your specific referral or the status of your forms, please email our dedicated team at patients@etonpsychiatrists.co.uk.
