What to Expect
Instruction and Fees
- Instruction Process: Please send your letter of instruction and relevant medical records to our secure email or contact us by phone. We will confirm the expert's availability, conflicts of interest, and estimated turnaround time (usually 2-4 weeks from receipt of all documents).
Fee Structure: We work within Legal Aid Agency (LAA) rates where applicable. For private instructions, our fees are competitive and based on hourly rates or a fixed fee per report.

Eton Psychiatrists provides expert witness services with a focus on impartiality, clinical excellence, and strict adherence to court deadlines. Our terms are designed to ensure transparency and efficiency for instructing solicitors and legal bodies.
1. Professional Standards & Compliance
Our Consultant Psychiatrists act as independent experts. All reports are prepared in strict accordance with:
- Civil Procedure Rules (CPR)
- Criminal Procedure Rules (CrPR)
- Family Procedure Rules (FPR) Our primary duty is to the Court, overriding any obligation to the instructing party.
2. Instruction Process
To initiate a request, please provide a formal Letter of Instruction along with:
- Relevant medical records and court bundles.
- Clear deadlines and specific questions to be addressed.
- Upon receipt, we will confirm the expert’s availability, conduct a conflict of interest check, and provide an estimated turnaround time.
3. Fees and Payment Terms
- Legal Aid Cases: We accept instructions at current Legal Aid Agency (LAA) rates.
- Private Instructions: Fees are based on competitive hourly rates or a fixed-fee per report. Please contact us for a bespoke quote.
- Responsibility for Payment: The instructing solicitor/firm is responsible for the settlement of all fees, regardless of the outcome of the case or the timing of LAA disbursements.
- Settlement Period: Invoices are due for payment within 30 days of the report delivery unless otherwise agreed in writing.
4. Turnaround Times
- Standard Service: Reports are typically completed within 2–4 weeks from the receipt of all necessary documentation and the clinical assessment.
- Urgent Requests: We can often accommodate shorter deadlines; please contact our office directly to discuss expedited requirements.
5. Cancellations & Non-Attendance
- Cancellations made within 48 hours of a scheduled assessment, or non-attendance by the client, will incur a cancellation fee to cover administrative costs and the clinician's time.
6. Data Protection & Confidentiality
All sensitive data and medical records are handled via our secure, GDPR-compliant systems. Reports are stored securely and shared only with authorised legal representatives.
