About Me

Dr Ash Venkataraman is a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist with expertise in memory problems, Alzheimer’s disease, mild cognitive impairment, brain health and cognitive decline. He works in the pioneering Brain Health Clinic at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and is a leading dementia neuroscientist at King’s College London.

Dr Venkataraman helps people who are worried about changes in memory, thinking, concentration, behaviour or personality. His approach combines careful clinical assessment with the latest advances in dementia research, including brain imaging, blood biomarkers, brain health and emerging treatments. He aims to give patients and families clear explanations, practical guidance and a personalised plan based on their individual needs.

He completed his PhD at Imperial College London on the Cellular Phase of Alzheimer’s Disease, exploring some of the earliest biological changes that may occur in Alzheimer’s disease. He was one of only five individuals worldwide to receive the Alzheimer’s Disease/Parkinson’s Disease Award and has published more than 30 scientific papers in dementia and brain health, including leading journals Science Translational Medicine, Molecular Psychiatry, the British Journal of Psychiatry and Alzheimer’s Research & Therapy.

Dr Venkataraman has held multiple research grants and fellowships supported by Alzheimer’s Research UK and the Alzheimer’s Society. His work has been featured extensively in the media, and he has filmed a documentary on dementia.

Alongside his clinical work, he leads a dementia research group at the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing, where he supervises PhD students and develops new approaches to dementia diagnosis, biomarkers, brain imaging, clinical trials and treatment pathways.

This combination of specialist clinical experience and cutting-edge research means Dr Venkataraman can offer patients access to the latest thinking in memory and dementia care, while keeping consultations personal, compassionate and tailored to each person’s circumstances.
